West Milford is a vast Highlands township of lakes, reservoirs, mountains, state forests and small commercial centers. At more than 80 square miles, it is geographically unlike most Passaic County municipalities: nearly two-thirds of the township is protected open space and the landscape is dotted with almost 40 lakes.
The township includes communities and postal areas such as West Milford, Hewitt, Newfoundland, Upper Greenwood Lake and other lake neighborhoods. Union Valley Road, Macopin Road, Greenwood Lake Turnpike and Route 23 connect these dispersed residential, commercial and recreation areas.
Boundary note: NJTGO treats Hewitt and Newfoundland locations as local only when their physical address is within West Milford Township. Nearby Ringwood, Vernon, Warwick NY, Hardyston and other municipalities remain separate even when businesses market themselves to the West Milford/Greenwood Lake area.
